The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace made its first North American appearance at the New York Auto Show on Wednesday. Among those on display was a future member of Waymo's autonomous fleet.
The company, formerly the Google self-driving car project, has partnered with Jaguar to develop the world's first electric, autonomous luxury vehicle. Waymo will add 20,000 of such SUVs to its "Waymo Service."

Here's what it looks like:
The consumer version of the I-Pace also showed up at the auto show, but without the self-driving technology. This wasn't news (the I-Pace debuted ahead of the International Geneva Motor Show in March), but it was exciting to see Jaguar's first all-electric vehicle on the show floor.
It's equipped with JaguarDrive Control, which adjusts steering and acceleration settings to the climate and conditions you're driving in. It also comes with a smartphone app that can lock and unlock the car, as well as find its location and fuel status, and even check if you've left a window open.
Waymo CEO John Krafcik said at a press event that the the 20,000 I-Pace SUVs will be capable of servicing up to 1 million trips in a single day. Uber services almost 6 million rides per day -- so it'll have some catching up to do.
