The 13-inch MacBook Air from late 2020 nabbed a Mashable Choice Award upon release for its zippy M1 chip, quiet fanless design, and 18-hour battery life. We're still recommending it three years later as the best budget MacBook, and Amazon is now bundling the 256GB base model with a three-year Apple Care+ plan for $888.99 (a $1,178 total value); it usually retails for $999 on its own.

New as of early October, the Surface Laptop Go 3 is an ultra-lightweight laptop with a sleek 12.4-inch touchscreen, a fingerprint reader for extra security, and a superb keyboard. It's powered by an older 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor (i.e. it's not cutting-edge), but "it's ideal for students and busy-bee travelers in need of a portable notebook," said Mashable tech editor Kim Gedeon. The entry-level variant with 8GB of RAM just hit a record low of $599.99 (or $200 off) on Amazon, which beats the Microsoft Store's holiday pricing by $100.

One configuration of MSI's 15-inch gaming laptop dropped to a dirt-cheap price of $479 during Walmart's first Black Friday Deals event.
